A more rewarding future

Another Wednesday, another update.

0.1.5 was released late last night.

Changelog:

  • Adjusted project rewards to more aggressively increase revenue
  • Increased scouting costs
  • Decreased Devil HELLth
  • Fixed bug preventing the Frozen status effect from having 3 stacks as intended
  • More News headlines (the News never stops)

The big change is how much money projects reward for completion. Before this update, the numbers were based mostly on my intuition and as a result, were way off from feeling "right".

For this update, we created a systemic rule to derive money rewards based on the properties of the project (progress required, number of worker slots, deadline, and trigger difficulty). In addition, we increased all rewards.

Here is a peek at the spreadsheet used to calculate these project rewards

And here is the "backend" numbers used to derive the reward numbers.

The Tier reflects the tier the business is at (1 through 5). Cost is how much a business at that tier costs. 1 Progress Reward is the money reward for completing a project per progress. So at tier 1, if a project requires 2 progress, the base reward would be 800.

The Extra Slot Mod is a negative modifier for any extra worker slots. For example, if a project has 2 slots, $25 would be deducted for the 1 extra slot. The Extra Deadline Mod works similarly. For every extra turn in the deadline beyond the first, that amount of money is deducted.

Finally, the Trigger Rewards Mod is how we factor in the project triggers to the final reward. If the triggers are generally easy for that tier, no extra rewards are given. If the triggers are challenging, we reward a bit extra. For example, if a project at tier 1 only triggers progress on a role of 1, we reward 75% of the Trigger Rewards Mod. If that same project rewards progress on a roll of 1-4 (tier 1 workers are D4), we reward 0% of the bonus trigger rewards.

All of this is to say, the rewards are more "fair" now and we can more easily adjust them by tweaking these backend values based on feedback.

We also increased the scouting costs to better reflect the curve used for buying businesses. The scouting costs before were:

$250, $500, $1000, $2000

Now they are:

$250, $500, $1500, $6000

Since businesses increase in cost in a more aggressive fashion, we wanted the scouting costs to reflect that as well. With the increased rewards, we feel the business owner should be able to sustain these increased costs.

Finally, here is my favorite new News headline from this update.
