Post release updates!
It has been about 18 days since we first "released" the game. I put released in quotes because we don't view this as a normal game release. We basically got to the point where we believe the game is fun and represents our vision for the project. But we aren't stopping with the releases anytime soon!
In fact, since the initial release, we have updated the game 5 times. And yesterday we released a pretty large update to how the game functions.
We added buttons which "scout" new businesses and workers for you. The way this worked before is that you needed to advance to the next Business Quarter to gain access to new businesses and workers. And you needed to buy businesses to progress the Quarters. So we are on our way to removing the whole concept of Business Quarters. They still exist and drive events but soon events will be disconnected from Quarters too.
Another change was in how we introduce the player to the game. There is a delicate balance in a game of any complexity of teaching the game while not overwhelming the player. For that reason, we have events gated so that the player doesn't see them in their first game. I'm not confident with that decision as events represent the "End of the World" part of our game. Without events, it just seems like a dice based business management game.
So we made a slight change where events are automatically unlocked after the very first game (it was based on unlocking something in R&D before). We also have the very first game artificially limited to 50 Transcendence (you gain +30 Transcendence after your first game). We hope these changes will help introduce the core game quickly and then get the player into the "full" vision of the game ASAP.
Finally, we significantly upgraded the city art!
Before this change, each business was represented by a piece of art we created but they didn't look like buildings. We always wanted to represent the businesses as buildings. So Top bought a building tile set and created custom building art for each building in the game.
Of course, we have a lot more planned! It is a balance of working on new gameplay features, first time play/tutorials, and bugs but we are determined to update the game for as long as people are enjoying it!
